Hi, I’m Gabriela.

My first stage was a fireplace ledge. As a toddler, I would assemble family members to be my audience, stand on my “stage,” and perform improvised songs about puppies and rainbows. If this sounds like you or your child, you're in good company!

I started formal voice lessons when I turned 10 and later was accepted into the Regional Arts Vocal Program at Mayfield Secondary School. I completed my Bachelor of Music degree with honours at the University of Toronto in classical voice. While I love performing, my true passion is teaching, and I went on to complete a Master’s of Teaching degree at OISE to become an Ontario-certified teacher.

I have taught hundreds of kids in public schools, theatre camps, and of course, in my own independent voice studio, and there is nothing more exhilarating to me than watching my students succeed and knowing I had a part in it! I believe that, whether your stage is in a theatre, a bandshell, or a fireplace ledge, your voice deserves to be heard. Let me help you meet your singing goals!

Benefits of Singing

  • Grow

Evolve your sense of playfulness, creativity, discipline, and self-confidence. Grow as a singer and realize you have so much to offer!

  • Confidence

Learning a new skill, sharing your voice, and standing in front of an audience requires a certain kind of courage! At the studio, we will work together to give you the skills you need to sing with confidence.

  • Awareness

As we delve into the stories of the songs we sing, we learn about ourselves and the human experience through a new lens. As singers, we learn how to communicate these stories in a way that feels authentic to ourselves as artists.

  • Bliss

And maybe the most important thing; singing amplifies the joy in our lives, and who doesn’t want more joy?!

What To Expect

Standing up in front of an audience is no small feat, but add the vulnerability of a singing voice and well, it takes a special kind of human to do that. I happen to specialize in those special humans. The greatest privilege of my life is watching my students grow and evolve as human beings. Yes, I teach voice, but what you will get out of it is so much more than that!

My Why

My students are the reason why I do this job. In my work as a classroom teacher, I’ve been afforded the privilege of applying educational pedagogies into the private voice studio. I describe myself as a teaching artist because I am as passionate about providing high-quality educational experiences as I am about singing itself.

My Teaching style

Our lessons will always be informed by evidence-based practices and will cater to your specific needs as a singer and learner. My students will receive the latest information in voice science and pedagogy.

KIND WORDS

“I came to Gabriela’s Voice Studio because I wanted to gain more control of my voice. I wanted to sound better and be more consistent with my singing. Well 3 years later, I can say I have learned SO much! I honestly thought either you could sing well or you couldn’t. I now know what a mixed sound is and how to achieve it. I’ve learned how to sing without tension. I’ve increased my range. I’ve learned how different styles of singing require different things of the voice. Gabriela’s knowledge of the voice and physiology is very deep. She has a huge toolkit of strategies and exercises to get your voice doing what you want it to. Gabriela makes you feel at ease. She is very intuitive, caring, personable, and hilarious! I would 1 million percent recommend her. She is so knowledgeable with a wide variety of ages and singing styles and she really caters to your personal singing goals.“
